Here's what the parents say

"My son Sam has participated in primary school chess under the expert guidance of Lisa for two years. During this time Lisa has taught him not only the basics of playing chess, but has also given him various strategies which he has been able to use in chess competitions against other schools. It has been great to see Sam’s confidence increase with each game and see his delight when he experiences success. Thankyou Lisa for your enthusiasm and positive encouragement. Sam and his friends look forward to chess each week."

“Lisa's expertise and passion for the game of Chess enabled her to pass on her knowledge in a manner that my children could understand from a young age. Lisa made chess " fun, enjoyable" (Sarah) "she was encouraging" (Oscar) and "the inter-school competitions we played made chess interesting." (Charles). Lisa's patient and supportive approach to teaching chess has allowed my children to embrace problem solving.

My guys thought playing chess was a highlight of primary school.”

Parent & High School Teacher

"Lisa ran chess classes and competitions at my son’s school. She tutored the boys and girls, ran the interschool competition  and regional comps on behalf of the school. Lisa ran a fun lunch class for the children to learn how to play chess. My child loved interacting with other children in his own class but especially loved using the “secret” moves shown to him by Lisa to help him win. Not everything was a competition under Lisa’s instruction, the older kids would share their knowledge with the younger children and work as a team to improve the chess group.

Lisa was very clear, patient and  understanding working with children of all abilities to show them in a fun and enjoyable way how to play chess. Her passion and enthusiasm came through every step of the way. The children especially loved when she taught them moves that would lead to checkmate!

As the parent of a child who couldn’t play a lot of sport it was fantastic that our school offered chess as an alternate way to participate in the extra curricular life of the school. It meant that he could work on his own, improve his skills and enjoy being part of a team. Lisa’s enthusiasm was certainly passed on to my son."
